And the West is History

100 years ago: “Mike Conroy goes out to Ignacio to get the remnants of the bridge equipment for the Sunnyside bridge. Conroy states that the part contracted for by Mr. Bonds and himself is almost completed.”

75 years ago: “Train and bus service into Durango has been delayed because of storms on the passes.”

50 years ago: This item appeared in the section titled “Panther’s Pulse”: “‘This school showed more spirit today than any school I’ve ever seen,’ quipped Frank Talley. Talley was talking about the student body’s pep spirit at the pep assembly. In fact the whole school is talking about it – for there has been none like it before. Students were cheering at the top of their voices for 40 minutes and nothing could quiet them.”

25 years ago: “Costs for the La Plata County Courthouse remodel and expansion have gone over the original $2.19 million bid, but the county commissioners say capital construction funds will cover the bill. The total cost is now $2.35 million, which includes the 28,740-square-foot addition and the remodel of the court facilities in the existing courthouse.”
