100 years ago: Miners in Silverton were on strike, and many had left to apply for work at other mines. It was reported that “new men” were being hired to the “Sunnyside gang” and the mine was expected to be running “in full strength in short order.”

75 years ago: Ocean Oil Company began drilling in the lower La Plata, and reported reaching a depth of 312 feet so far.

50 years ago: San Juan National Forest recorded 33 fires for the season, compared to the 47 recorded the previous year. Of the 33 fires, 13 were caused by people.

25 years ago: Three men, all 21 years old, were cited for indecent exposure in the 900 block of Main Avenue.
