100 years ago: “Joe Johnsen, the Florida Mesa ranchman, was in town. He says he is going to quit his job and go to South Dakota, where he has a ranch with only his sister on it. He is afraid someone will jump the ranch, he says.”

75 years ago: “La Plata County Sheriff Bruce Sullivan returned from Tucson, Arizona, where he had competed in the world’s championship sheriff’s steer roping contest in the La Fiesta de los Vaqueros. Bruce brought back with him a fine gaberdine shirt and $37.50 in prize money for second place in the event.”

50 years ago: “James Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Cole of Florida Mesa, will receive the highest rank in Scouting, the Eagle award. This will be presented to him at a special court of honor ceremony.”

25 years ago: “The Ignacio Cabin Fever Fest, held Feb. 16-17, will bring in an estimated $350 for the Ignacio Community Library once all the money is collected.”
