100 years ago: “United States District Judge R.E. Lewis at Denver has entered a decree in the foreclosure proceedings against the Silverton Mining Co., ordering the property sold because of failure to meet its mortgaged indebtedness of $153,500 including principle and interest. It is located near Silverton, San Juan County.”

75 years ago: This was in the section titled, Bayfield News: “The bake sale was well attended and netted a neat sum for the Bayfield library.”

50 years ago: “Despite a steady snowfall this morning, the Main Avenue bridge was the scene of much activity as workmen continue on the widening project in an effort to meet the Dec. 10 predicted completion date for work to be done this winter.”

25 years ago: “A local contractor has offered to buy Mason Elementary, Smiley Junior High and administration building from School District 9-R. Ed Baldwin of Baldwin Construction said he would purchase the three facilities and also has offered to build a new middle school. He said he intends to help the district by designing and constructing the new school and simultaneously relieve the district of its old buildings.”
