And the West is History

100 years ago: “$10 each was contributed to the police court revenues by three young men who were arrested and charged with disturbance as the result of a bunch of loud talking on Main Avenue about midnight. An awful fight was averted by the pinch.”

75 years ago: “A picnic was had in more ways than one when Ross Cheney entertained friends at a jolly birthday party. Setting for the affair was the top of Reservoir Hill, where the last rays of a setting sun cast a warmth and fragrance on the spring-decked hillside.”

50 years ago: “The federal share of $333,333 for construction of Fort Lewis College’s million-dollar library and classroom unit is now available, Dr. John F. Reed, president of the college, was notified. ... The approval means that the money is available, but detailed plans will still have to be approved.”

25 years ago: “The Herald’s own Sally Morrissey was chosen Citizen of the Year by the Animas Valley Grange. She was honored for her many contributions to the community.”
