100 years ago: SUNNYSIDE – “The Christmas entertainment given by the Sunnyside Sunday School was attended by a large audience. Everyone enjoyed the exercises immensely, especially a dialogue by Little Eunice and Lester Short which was very ‘cute.’”

75 years ago: “The Parent-Teacher Association of Animas City will meet at the school house. A program of interest and entertainment is being planned. The topic is ‘Better Homes – Making the House a Home for the Children.’”

50 years ago: “The Boy Scouts of Durango would like to collect all the old Christmas trees for a conservation project in soil erosion. ... These trees will be used on ranches and farms in the Durango vicinity.”

25 years ago: “Purgatory Ski Resort received 4 inches of snow during a brief snow shower that left only a dusting in Durango. ... Purgatory has five runs open: two beginner and three intermediate. All runs have a base of machine-made snow.”
