100 years ago: “Crops were beaten into the ground, and hay, vegetables and fruit practically ruined in the Hay Gulch section by a terrific hailstorm that visited that country. The damage is said to be complete so far as growing plants are concerned.”

75 years ago: “Durango’s City Council discussed numerous matters including a rooster that begins crowing at 1 a.m. and creates a neighborhood nuisance.”

50 years ago: The following appeared in the section called Girl About Town: “The swimming pool will get equal time in Girl About. They called to say many people had commented to them on how they enjoyed the music in the air coming from the pool.”

25 years ago: “The Bayfield Town Board voted to purchase the Bayfield Roadside Park from the Colorado State Highway department. By unanimous decision, the board agreed to take $1,429.55 from the town’s Conservation Trust Fund to pay for the 5-acre park.”
