And the West is History

50 years ago: Heavy equipment was concentrated yesterday at the intersection of 14th and Main as the completion of the truck by-pass drew near. The new highway will afford highway vehicles more right-of-way and traffic ease. Sidewalks have been constructed along the route as an added feature According to highway sources, the by-pass should be completed sometime next week.

25 years ago: Construction has begun on a new two-mile mountain biking/pedestrian trail that Durangoans will be able to use without ever having to leave the city. The new Lion’s Trail, which is bordered by Florida Drive and Rim Drive, will have four access sites including Chapman Hill and the Lion’s Den. The trail is being built as part of the Parks and Recreation’s Open Space Program, and part of a plan to use Chapman Hill year-round.
