And the West is History

50 years ago: Colorado citizens are going to have to face up to the problems of taxation, according to Dr. E.W. Sandberg, representative of the Colorado Public Expenditure Council. In a Thursday night meeting of the League of Women Voters, Sandberg pointed out that 90 percent of Colorado’s revenue comes from property tax, and he wondered if there will be a limit to that tax in the future. According to a special report released by the council, Colorado taxpayers are bearing a tax burden which is relatively high among all the states of the nation.

25 years ago: District Attorney Victor Reichman of Durango, involved in a scheme that eventually drew a lawyer into involvement in an illegal drug and firearms case, was censured today by the State Supreme Court. The high court’s 7-0 public reprimand included an assessment of $4,851.28 to pay for the cost of the Supreme Court Grievance Committee’s investigation of Reichman’s role in the case of Robin K. Auld, an attorney who now practices in Pagosa Springs.
