And the West is History

100 years ago: “A. Fuller Hood, elected by the people on April 6 with a big majority, to be mayor of Durango, finally after a futile contest and effort by former mayor Scouton to hang onto his job, was placed legally in his office.”

75 years ago: “Breakfast outdoors against a charming background of flowering shrubs and trees was served by Mrs. H.G. Berri in her lovely garden which overlooks the Animas River.”

50 years ago: DURANGO –“Is something bugging you? If so, it’s probably the insect influence, especially in hair styles (sic). First it was the beatles, and now it’s termite bangs and necklines. It is called the ‘Chewed Look.’ Remember when your mother used to cut your bangs and she said they looked as if they’d been chewed off? She certainly didn’t know they would be the height of fashion at some time in your life.”

25 years ago: “This weekend’s 24-hour Benefit Run is supposed to be a fun event, but there will be some serious runners there. At least 10 world-class ‘ultra-runners’ will be on the track trying to put as much as 100 or 120 miles beneath their sneakers. The ultra-runners will include Theresa Daus-Weber of Lakewood and Marshal Ulrich of Fort Morgan, as well as Dale Garland of Durango Motorless Transit.”
