50 years ago: The following appeared in the column Girl About Town: “The ladies are talking about ... Mrs. Gladys Duxstad in a bright red felt broad-brimmed hat with a purse to match ... Mrs. Brice Lee in a handmade beige sweater that has a brown geometrical design on the upper side of the raglan sleeve ... The Rev. J. David Bechtel riding a bicycle on Florida Road. Now that he is a suburban dweller, it’s a wonderful way to exercise.”

25 years ago: “Preemptive Technologies, Inc. has pulled out of a verbal commitment to build a $2.4 million research facility in Bodo Industrial Park, although company and county officials say Preemptive is still committed to building in La Plata County. Bruce Handler, chief executive officer of Preemptive, headquartered in the San Francisco area, said problems with the Bodo Park site prompted the company to seek another location for its facility.”
