BHS boys thrash Mancos 84-51

Bayfield's Hunter Killough tries maneuvering around an Alamosa defender during last Friday's 64-40 loss to the Mean Moose inside BHS Gymnasium.

With the Mancos Performance Center lacking proper heat the first time the Blue Jays were to host Bayfield.well, the Wolverines figured they'd just bring their own for the rescheduled Jan. 19 date.

Senior guard Taed Heydinger followed up a 20-point performance in Bayfield's 62-47 win over 3A Farmington (N.M.) Navajo Prep last Saturday with a team-best 22 in an 84-51 rout of a 2A/1A San Juan Basin League opponent Tuesday night, as BHS improved to 4-6 overall (0-1 3A Intermountain).

Sophomore post Ryan Phelps registered 16 points and eight rebounds against MHS (3-5, 2-1 SJBL) after getting the Eagles for 17 and nine, and sophomore guard Hunter Killough netted 13 points.

Bayfield led 26-12 after one quarter and 47-24 through two, despite Mancos senior Andrew Plunkett's efforts which yielded a MHS-best 16 points. Senior Adrian Hernandez scored 12 and senior Andrew Christensen dropped ten.

The Wolverines will resume IML play at home tonight versus Monte Vista (5-6, 1-1).
