Foundation hires management team

The Durango Winter Sports Foundation announces the hiring of Lander & Associates to guide the club with expanded fundraising and event management.

The foundation supports Durango Nordic Ski Club, Purgatory Freestyle Team and Purgatory Alpine Ski Team. Steven Lander & Associates has been retained for donor management, grant writing, special event production, direct fundraising, public relations and marketing. Susan Lander, along with Beth Lamberson Warren, will provide professional nonprofit management to the organization.

Lander has guided the Women’s Resource Center and Music in the Mountains to their selection for El Pomar Foundation’s Award for Excellence. Warren has done the same for Adaptive Sports Association and KSUT Public Radio.

Corporate and event sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2014-15 ski season.

Kiwanis Club makes contributions

The Kiwanis Club of Durango announces that these contributions were made to local organizations during the current year with funds raised from Pancake Day and the Bill Mashaw Golf Tournament: Tri County Head Start, $4,500; Boys & Girls Club, $4,000; La Plata Youth Services, $1,000; Florida Mesa Imagination Library, $1,000; The Family Center – Bright Beginnings, $750; The Eye and Ear Program, $750; Durango High School Student Council Backpack program, $750; La Plata Youth Baseball, $750; and many other local groups, including Durango High School Key Club, Durango Youth Soccer, San Juan Board of Cooperative Educational Services Regional Career Fair, Dave Spencer Ski Classic, gift cards for the Science Fair, Project Merry Christmas and Adaptive Sports received financial support. In addition to financial support, members of the Kiwanis Club donated their time to many local organizations.

Local businesses announce merger

Briliam Engineering Services and Frachetti Engineering, Inc. announce their agreement to come together in order to form FEI Engineers.

Business relationships to be discussed

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host a Lunch & Learn titled “How to Maximize Your Professional Business Relationships” from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.

In this Lunch and Learn presentation – by Chuck Fredrick, CPA with FredrickZink and Associates PC along with his staff of experts including Sid Zink, Coelene O’Kane and John Lopez – participants will learn how to communicate with their business team and make sure they are on the path to success. AgCredit announces a new employee

American AgCredit announces Tomasita Clarke has accepted a position as operations support specialist in the Durango office.

Clarke has more than 10 years experience in banking, having served as a teller, customer service representative, assistant branch manager and branch manager.

America AgCredit, part of the nationwide Farm Credit System, has been providing credit and financially related services to farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses since 1916. The Durango office serves Archuleta, La Plata, Montezuma and Dolores counties.

AgCredit hires vice president of lending

American AgCredit announces Larry B. McGee has accepted a position as vice president of lending in the Durango office.

McGee has more than 36 years of banking experience, having served as chief real estate appraiser, agricultural loan officer and commercial bank president.

He currently serves on the board of the Montezuma Community Economic Development Association and the troop committee of Boy Scout Troop No. 519.

LPEA announces new apprentice linemen

Justin Barnum and Michael Juliano have been named to the apprentice lineman program at La Plata Electric Association, working toward earning their journeyman lineman status and joining the profession responsible for constructing and maintaining electric power distribution lines and facilities.

Raised on a farm in Washington state, Barnum attended Northwest Lineman College in Denton, Texas.

Juliano, a native of Bayfield, spent nine years with Hydro-X as a hydrovac operator and, ultimately, operations manager.

The four-year apprentice program includes 8,000 working hours on-the-job, with mentor linemen in the field, as well as scholastic study in the evenings and written examinations.
