Carver Brewing hosts networking event

Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave., and the Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Tuesday Talk: Coffee at Carver’s from 7:45 to 9 a.m. July 5.

This is a good opportunity for casual networking.

Be prepared to share some of your best business practices.

Everyone gets a free cup of coffee, and breakfast is available (dutch treat).

LPEA announces new employees

La Plata Electric Association recently added three new employees to its team.

Julie McIntyre is a new customer service representative at its headquarters in Bodo Industrial Park. McIntyre will work with LPEA customers on billing issues, new accounts and various other products and services. She previously served La Plata County for three years in Recording and in the Department of Motor Vehicles. She also worked in public safety communications in Fountain and Longmont for 23 years.

Debbra Herrera and Howard Dickman have joined the LPEA Finance and Accounting Department as new billing clerks.

The two will assist customers with billing concerns as well as troubleshooting, meter-reading and billing issues.

Herrera, a Durango native, comes to LPEA from La Plata Services Associates, where she served as manager of the local company contracted to read LPEA’s electric meters.

Dickman, a native of New York, attended North Texas State University, where he received his business degree. After graduation, he handled contract housekeeping services for J.C. Penney for nearly 30 years.

Local First Celebrates ‘Independents Week’

Local First will celebrate the spirit of localism and entrepreneurship from July 1 to 7.

Members of Local First can pick up their “Independents Week” sidewalk decals at the Local First office through June 29 during business hours.

Local First will have a booth and coupon giveaway at the Durango Farmers Market on July 2. Businesses can also pick up a decal at that time.

Rotarians award StoneAge employee

The Durango Daybreak Rotary Club recently awarded its 2016 Vocational Excellence Award to Betsy Fitzpatrick, human resource director of StoneAge Tools.

Fitzpatrick has been employed with StoneAge for six years.

In that time, her accomplishments include starting up and spearheading its community volunteer and contribution programs.
