Lisa Feldman joins FredrickZink

Lisa Feldman has joined FredrickZink & Associates, PC – an accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Durango – as accounting manager.

A native of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Feldman graduated from University of New Mexico with a degree in finance and later an MBA in accounting. Feldman recently relocated to Durango, bringing with her more than 20 years experience managing the accounting activities of small businesses in the health and government sectors, with specialization in billing functions processes. She will concentrate in client payroll and monthly accounting services.

Know Your Dough adds board members

Know Your Dough, a nonprofit providing financial literacy for youth and young adults in Southwest Colorado, announces two new board members.

Jessica Adams is serving as secretary and has worked in the field of education for the past 10 years. Currently, she is an academic adviser for the federal government program Trio Talent Search, which focuses on helping low-income and first-generation college students graduate high school and attend college in a financially responsible manner.

Chris Lyon is serving as the vice president and is a senior accounting lecturer at the School of Business Administration at Fort Lewis College. She has been teaching 15 years, three at Utah State University followed by 12 at FLC. Lyon has served as faculty adviser for the accounting honors organization Beta Alpha Psi for 15 years and was recently chosen to be the chapter advocate for the Rocky Mountain and Missouri Valley regions. She is a CPA in Colorado and has a master’s in accounting from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Introduction to QuickBooks offered

Bethany McManus will teach “Introduction to QuickBooks” Feb. 26 at First National Bank’s Training Room, 259 W. Ninth St.

Sponsored by the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center and First National Bank of Durango, the class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a break for a brown-bag lunch at noon. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. The cost is $70 or $65 for chamber members.

Apply for disaster loans by March 2

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center reminds small, nonfarm businesses of the March 2 deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata and Montezuma counties that began May 1, 2014.

Applicants may apply using the Electronic Loan Application at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.

Chamber After Hours to be held Feb. 19

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at El Moro Spirits and Tavern, 945 Main Ave.

The cost is $7 for chamber members and guests. There will be door prizes, food and beverages.

Bear Smart receives donation

Bear Smart Durango, a local nonprofit, announces it has received a donation from TechWood, LLC as part of the organization’s Bear Smart Builder sponsorship program. TechWood, LLC strives to build responsibly in bear country, helping to make the community safe for both residents and bears.

The nonprofit is grateful for the $250 contribution, which will be used in support of efforts to reduce human-bear conflict hot spots in the community.

BID moves location of Coffee & Conversation

The monthly Durango Business Improvement District Coffee & Conversation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St., in the bank’s downstairs conference room.

Among the variety of news updates and networking opportunities, the meeting’s main guest will be city of Durango Multi Modal Administrator Amber Blake, who will focus on the Way To Go! Club and how it incentivizes businesses and employees to use alternate means of transportation.

Coffee and pastries will be provided, compliments First National Bank of Durango.

Business planning series available

The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center in conjunction with local area business partners is sponsoring a Leading Edge Strategic Business Planning Series for new and experienced business owners and managers.

The course will begin Feb. 28 and be held every other Saturday for five sessions, ending on April 25. Master the skills needed for starting, managing and growing a business wisely.

This course is appropriate for all business types, including agriculture and nonprofits.

Tuition includes 36 hours of instruction from qualified presenters, two members of the business may attend, five hours of individual business counseling, workbook and printed materials, access to SBDC resources, opportunities to address individual needs and cash awards for top three business plans submitted.

Full tuition is $300 for the entire course or $50 per half-day session. Classes will be held at the Colorado Welcome Center Conference Room, 928 E. Main St. in Cortez from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Scholarships may be available.

Bayfield business changes name

Bayfield Pilates Connection is now Bayfield Wellness Center.

The new location is 871 Count Road 501 in Bayfield, located across from Bayfield High School. The business continues to offer pilates and yoga classes, as well as Weight Watchers, massage and wellness workshops. An updated website and Facebook page are coming soon.

Alpine Bank announces promotion

Alpine Bank in Durango announces that Dillon Morehead has been promoted to banking officer.

Morehead began working at Alpine Bank in 2012 as a teller in Aspen. Shortly after beginning his career at Alpine Bank, Dillon joined the Management Trainee program and relocated to the Durango branch. In his current role, Dillon originates mortgage loans for current and future Alpine Bank customers. Outside of the bank, Dillon volunteers with the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado, the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley Baseball Camp.

Dillon is a recipient of the Affiliate of the Year Award for outstanding contributions to the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado.
