City continues water flushing

The city’s Utilities Department will continue the maintenance of the drinking-water system Wednesday morning for two hours in the downtown area.

The city of Durango’s Utilities Department will continue the maintenance of the drinking-water system on Wednesday by flushing water lines along Main Avenue in the downtown area, according to the city of Durango.

The maintenance will begin at 4 a.m. and is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The process removes any sediments or stagnant water from the system by moving large volumes of water through the pipes, the city said.

During the process, city water costumers may notice cloudy or discolored water from faucets. However, the water is still safe to drink, the city said.

Customers who experience cloudy water are advised by the city to turn off their faucets, wait 15 minutes, and then run cold water through the faucet for about 15 minutes to clear any residual cloudiness.

If the water remains cloudy, customers are asked to call the Utilities Department at 375-4801.
