City of Durango’s Fall Cleanup begins Monday

The city of Durango’s Fall Cleanup will take place from Monday to Oct. 30.

City crews will move through residential neighborhoods picking up tree trimmings and branches less than 8 feet in length and less than 8 inches in diameter and bagged or boxed loose brush and leaves.

Monday-Thursday: Areas north of 15th Street to the north city limits, paralleling Main Avenue to the east and west, including Animas City area.

Oct. 12-16: West side subdivisions, including Crestview, Needham, Rockridge and Junction Street areas.

Oct. 19-23: East side subdivisions including Riverview, North College, Hillcrest and SkyRidge.

Oct. 26-30: Areas south of 15th Street and west of Ninth Avenue, including residential areas of U.S. Highway 160 west and U.S. Highway 160 east (Three Springs) located within the city limits.

No other waste will be accepted, and no more than two truckloads will be picked up from each residence. Materials should be set out the weekend before each area is scheduled for collection. Once crews collect along a street, they will not return. Materials should be placed in the alley for collection or curbside in areas where there are not alleys.

Clean up items and brush at least 2 feet from fences, trees, bushes, gas meters, hydrants, power poles and connection boxes. If a pile cannot be safely picked up, it will be left in place. Do not block driving lanes or sidewalks.

This service is available to city residents only. Material placed by nonresidents or outside of designated pickup times is considered illegal dumping. Enforcement fines will increase to up to $1,000. Report illegal dumping at 385-2900.
