Coming Sunday – Parked: Half the American Dream

Mobile homes make up Colorado’s largest source of unsubsidized affordable housing, with more than 100,000 people living in over 900 parks across the state.

But those numbers have declined as large investors gobble up mom-and-pop operations, eliminating some parks in favor of redevelopment. Meanwhile, conflict between residents and management, which reflects a power dynamic that has long favored park owners, prompted changes in state law aimed at helping residents. Can mobile homes still be part of the solution to the housing crisis?

Coming Monday: “Parked: Half the American Dream,” a package of stories produced in collaboration with more than a dozen newsrooms across Colorado.
