Incident east of Cortez stopped traffic for 20 minutes
Crews from the Cortez Fire Protection District work to dislodge a motorcycle from under a truck Friday afternoon on U.S. Highway 160. A witness reported the motorcyclist was attempting to take a left turn when she was rear-ended.

A motorcyclist was injured about 3:30 p.m. Friday after being rear-ended on U.S. Highway 160 east of Cortez.

According to a witness, a westbound motorcyclist was making a left turn into the KOA Campground when she was rear-ended by a truck.

She was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital, but her injuries were not life-threatening, said EMS officials at the scene.

Traffic on U.S. Highway 160 east of Cortez was delayed for about 20 minutes Friday afternoon after a pickup collided with a motorcycle.

The motorcycle stayed upright but was lodged under the truck’s front bumper. Cortez Fire Protection District crews used a hydraulic spreader to help free the bike. The collision is under investigation.

Traffic was delayed about 20 minutes in both directions while the accident was investigated and vehicles moved off the road. A roadblock was set up at the intersection of Colorado Highway 145 and Highway 160 to divert traffic.

The Cortez Fire Protection District, Cortez Police Department, Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office and Southwest Health System ambulance responded to the scene.
