Dancers needed for Shimmy Mob fundraiser

Durango Shimmy Mob invites the public to learn belly dancing and join the team for the Alternative Horizons performances to be held May 13 at various locations around Durango.

The Shimmy Mob, opposite of a flash mob, raises funds and spreads awareness for community domestic-violence-prevention programs. On May 13, belly dancers around the world will dance the same choreography to celebrate World Belly Dance Day. All are welcome; no dance experience is required.

Participants must register by March 31 at www.shimmymob.com. Cost is $35 and includes a t-shirt. A portion of the registration fee will benefit the selected local charity.

Team leader Shelley Millsap will hold dance practice sessions for participants 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays at Durango Martial Arts Academy, 1129 Camino del Rio.
