Durango School District 9-R is welcoming community members to learn more about the changes impacting its students through a meeting series.

Superintendent Karen Cheser will be hosting “State of the District” meetings. It is one step in gathering information about how to fund the district's various needs. Feedback gathered will also inform the board's vote at the June 25 meeting on whether to pursue a 2024 bond, which could help fund a new school in the Three Springs area.

The 9-R board is gathering information about a new school and nothing has been decided, which is why community feedback is being sought.

“Three Springs is a growing area for families looking for housing and that’s why the committee believes it might be a good location for a new school,” said 9-R spokeswoman Karla Sluis.

Each meeting will go over the same content, and it will be repeated at each venue. Attendees will be invited to complete a feedback form.

At the meetings, district officials will give an overview of the district’s vision and strategy; celebrate the district’s good news and each school’s successes; share goals for the future from the Long-Range Planning Committee; describe the district’s specific facilities and funding needs; and facilitate a Q&A with attendees.

“These meeting are not just about getting feedback on the recommendations, as we are also describing the district visions and gaining feedback on our progress,” Cheser said.

Meetings will be held at the following times and locations:
