It’s only fresh meat until it gets pulverized.
In that case, the Durango Roller Girls’ Sharifa the Shredder and Tyrannosaurus Bex only wear the tag of “fresh” for another day. Because when Steel and Silicone clash starting at 7:10 p.m. today at Chapman Hill, pulverizing will abound.
“I’d just say come check out and see what it’s all about,” DRG president Kate “Crossbones” Jones said. “It’s a lot of action, and since there’s a lot of different skill levels at this bout, it tends to be a little crazier since you’ve got girls taking wild hits.”
“I’m excited to see all of our fresh meat skate for the first time in their first bout,” she said. “That’s always fun, and they’ve been training really hard.”
In the Durango Roller Girls’ first home match of the year, the club decided to switch things up, breaking apart their traditional teams – the Pain Conductors and the Helter Smelters – and switching the girls around. Combined with some individuals traveling to Durango from Prescott, Ariz., Vail and Denver, among other cities, tonight’s match up should be “even crazier” than usual, Jones said.
“Our skaters, from our fresh meat to our most experienced skaters, are playing,” Jones said. “So it should be a fun mix-up of skill levels.
“It’ll be fun just to have those girls revamp the energy.”
In the place of the old teams, the girls have divided up into teams Steel and Silicone, with the Animas Orthopedic Associates sponsoring Steel, and Animas Plastic Surgery and Animas Foot and Ankle sponsoring Silicone.
The sponsors bought T-shirts for each team and also got to select two girls to specifically represent their team.
“They have their own rivalry going on in Animas Surgical Hospital,” Jones said.

All beer tips at the event will be donated to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado.
The doors open at 6 p.m., and the bout will be followed with an after party at Lost Dog Bar and Lounge.
“We get aggressive out there, but it’s all in good fun,” Jones said.
