Durango volleyball stumbles in title chase, dropped by Fruita

Demons play Montrose in winner-take-all match on Saturday

The Durango High School volleyball team was unable to wrap up a share of the 5A/4A Southwestern League title Friday night, as the Demons lost in five sets to Fruita Monument (10-7, 6-2 SWL).

Durango (11-6, 5-2 SWL) lost 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 25-20 and 10-15.

The Demons were led by Millie O’Ketter, who recorded 19 kills, while Paige Ammerman added nine. Ammerman served up nine aces. Emmy Romero recorded a team-high 20 assists. Three players recorded over 20 digs, as Kyle Rowland and Leah Wesley had 21, while O’Ketter added 23.

The Demons will play Montrose (15-3, 6-1 SWL) for a winner-take-all league title match at 11 a.m. Saturday at Montrose High School.
