The Early Childhood Council of La Plata County is accepting applications from licensed child care providers (centers and homes) who will or have recently expanded their capacity of infant and toddler care in the five-county region.

The application deadline is July 7.

The 2015-16 Fort Lewis College winter and spring student-athlete award winners were announced April 20 at the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee banquet.

Brooke Milliet of Durango was honored with the Jan Wilson-Hetzler Outstanding Female Senior Athlete Award. Milliet’s major is exercise science – exercise physiology option.

This award is presented to the most outstanding senior female athlete at FLC. On the field, Milliet earned all-region and all-conference accolades for soccer, while competing at a high level in indoor and outdoor track and field.

Robert Marks of Durango was honored with the Athletic Training MVP Award. Marks’ major is athletic training. This is the second consecutive year Marks has earned the Athletic Training MVP Award.

Jessica Thulson of Durango was honored with the Women’s Golf MVP Award. Thulson’s major is history. She paced the Skyhawks this season with the lowest stroke average (82.00) while competing in all 18 rounds. She set the lowest round by a Skyhawk (74), which was recorded Sept. 22, 2015, at the Western New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate.

Brennan Buiso of Durango was honored with the Cycling Top Performer Award – BMX. Buiso’s major is business administration.

Know Your Dough, a nonprofit that provides financial wellness programs for local youths and young adults, will host a program at Durango High School for 11th-graders the week of May 16.

The program is linked to the Colorado Academic Standards for personal finances, which is included in state-mandated assessments.

Southwest Colorado Community College’s nursing faculty will have two short information sessions for pre-nursing students to address applications and questions.

These sessions will allow students to come in and be advised by nursing faculty about their courses, transcripts, grades and more so they can be prepared to take the classes they need for the program.

The production was crafted using personal experiences to create fictional stories, which explore the darkness of human nature.

Directed by Ben Mattson and Erin O’Connor, the show is made up of a series of vignettes, where metaphoric patients fight against their darkness to find light, connection and love.

“Shattered Constellations” show dates are Friday, Saturday, May 12, May 13 and May 14. The show starts at 7 p.m. at the DHS auditorium, 2390 Main Ave.

Stillwater Music’s summer program will include several one-week camps for youths in June.

In the Sound Engineering Camp, students will explore and practice various aspects involved in amplifying, mixing and recording instruments and vocals in both live and studio settings. Students will have the opportunity to perform and engineer for each other and will produce finished recording samples to take home at the end of the week.

This camp will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. June 13-17 and is open to students ages 11-18. No experience is necessary.

The Music Theory and Improvisation Camp will introduce students to many elements of theory, the language of music and improvisational techniques.

This camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 13-17 and is open to students 11 and older who have at least one year of playing experience.

The Ukulele Camp is appropriate for beginning to intermediate students who are interested in learning to play the ukulele or improve their ukulele skills. Students will learn how to play fun tunes while focusing on musicianship skills such as basic music theory, strumming patterns, singing and playing simultaneously and playing in an ensemble.

This camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 20-24 and is open to students ages 8-13.

The Honors Council of the University of Colorado-Boulder has voted to award Blair Swearingen the degree designation summa cum laude in neuroscience.

The Honors Convocation will be held at 8 a.m. Friday in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. Blair will be presented with a medallion and certificate.

She will also graduate With Distinction from the College of Arts and Sciences. This honor is for students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher.

Blair is the daughter of Rod and Lana Swearingen. She graduated from Durango High School in 2011.
