Tools to help adults discuss marijuana with youths

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has launched a youth marijuana prevention campaign aimed at “trusted adults.”

The campaign provides parents, educators, coaches, mentors and others who work with young people with tools, tips and information to discuss the importance of not using marijuana before age 21.

Risks to people younger than 21 include impaired brain development, reduced athletic performance, impaired judgment, and memory and learning difficulties.

To answer questions adults may have about retail marijuana and underage use, the department has also gathered a panel of experts for a CBS Denver roundtable on Facebook Live on Oct. 12. Content also will be featured on Good To Know Colorado’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter sites.

Tools and tips along with more information are available at www.GoodToKnowColorado.com.

Aztec school district adds more solar power

The Aztec Municipal School District board members recently approved a second project to install solar panels on district property.

The plan calls for installing solar panels on the roofs of five Aztec schools that is projected to cost about $915,000.

The move comes as administrators prepare to submit a third solar energy project for board approval that could produce as much energy as the first two projects combined.

Officials say the new solar panel system could produce about $86,000 in energy savings the first year.
