Durango Big Picture High School will host a fundraiser yard sale to raise money for graduation.
Seniors are organizing the sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. They are looking for donations and advertisements for the sale. Donations can be dropped off at Big Picture, 215 E. 12th St.

Home-schoolers can attend roundtable, spring social
A “Home School Roundtable and Spring Social” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. May 1 at the Pine River Community Learning Center, 535 Candelaria Drive in Ignacio.
Participants should bring their questions and concerns to a panel of experienced home-school parents and learn about curriculum options, free classes, field trips, standardized testing and other resources available from Pine River Community Learning Center. The center is now accepting enrollment for fall. Pizza will be served.

Teaching graduate course will be held in July
“Transformative Teaching,” a three-credit Adams State University graduate course offered from July 7 to 31, will hold an orientation at the Mancos Public Library, 211 E. First St. in Mancos.
Advance registration will close April 30. This course focuses on critical self-reflection for personal and professional development.
Teachers select from three community-based practicums for the middle part of the course. The practicums include a personal practicum, “Visioning” with Tami Graham; a social justice practicum, “Immigration Services” with Nicole Mosher; and an entrepreneurial practicum, “Small Business Start-Ups” with Monique Alvarez. Scholarships are available.

Early Childhood Council to host seminar May 31
The Early Childhood Council of La Plata County announces an upcoming seminar called “How to Talk with Families about Sensitive Issues Training” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 for professionals who work with young children and families.
This is a six-hour workshop about communicating effectively with parents using the Touchpoints Approach. The cost is $15 per participant. The registration deadline is May 16.

Mountain Middle School to present student exhibition
The Mountain Middle School seventh-grade students will host a public exhibition to demonstrate their synthesis of science and humanities concepts.
People can see how the students blended their investigation of Greek art with the scientific study of human anatomy and physiology.
The community is welcome to attend from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Mountain Middle School.
Continuing-education class will address gardening
Fort Lewis College Continuing Education Program will offer “Wildly Abundant Gardening – Natural Disease and Pest Control” by Frank LeBeau from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday .
Topics will include integrated pest management, companion planting, biological controls, creating an insectory to attract and feed the beneficial bugs and how to make and use compost tea as a fertilizer and pest-management tool. Participants will make natural insecticides and a herbicide to control weeds. The cost is $79. Advance registration is required.

Athletic, activities night scheduled at DHS
The Durango High School Athletic/Activities Department will conduct a “Rush Night” for all students and parent/guardians of students in grades eight to 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria.
The night will include athletics and band. Coaches and sponsors will be available for parents and students to talk to in order to gather information about individual programs, summer camps, open gyms and more.
Eighth-grade boys conference to be held
Durango School District 9-R will host the inaugural “Keys to High School Success ... and Beyond!” conference for eighth-grade boys from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 8 at Durango High School.
The boys will explore topics around healthy relationships, positive self-image and advocacy. The goal of the conference is to teach and embed the appropriate tools to support students in their efforts to build positive self-images, strong relationships with others and a sense of self-advocacy. Students will participate in workshops to build these skills.

FLC students to present research symposium
Fort Lewis College’s Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held Thursday
Both artistic and scientific projects will be part of the symposium. Science students will present their projects and findings from 12:30 to 5:15 p.m. in the Student Union Vallecito Room. From 1 to 5 p.m., students in the arts will perform in Roshong Recital Hall. The day will culminate in the Student Union Ballroom with a reception and poster presentations from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

A workshop called “Speak Up: The Power of Advocacy” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Eolus Room of Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
The workshop will help parents learn how to support their unique learner.
