Enjoy New Mexico’s tax-free days

We all know how much money it takes today to make ends meet, with daily costs escalating at a dizzying rate. I’m a single senior citizen and can only imagine what it takes, especially for families with children, to take care of daily and back-to-school expenses.

Did you know that New Mexico offers a tax-free holiday starting 12:01 a.m. Aug. 1 and concluding at midnight Aug. 3? And it’s not just for kid stuff. This could potentially save everyone with a tight budget quite a bit of money.

While you are down in New Mexico, stock up on groceries – there is no tax on them year-round. It’ll still cost money for round-trip gas to get there, but it could be worth the trip! I’m a 37-year Durango resident who shops almost exclusively locally and am not advocating a year-round exodus, but I know this could help people. For detailed information, go to www.tax.newmexico.gov.
