Voters need to be asking some serious, but common-sense questions before deciding that Proposition 105 is a flawed measure. In a country that demands transparency and protection in virtually every process that impacts the public, why is there a $9.75 million fight fueled by corporations such as ConAgra Foods, Monsanto and PepsiCo to keep consumers in the dark? Proposition 105 calls for food producers to label foods that are genetically engineered.

Nothing more, nothing less. No matter what research you choose to believe, the research on GMOs is still young in this country. No one yet has been able to demystify GMOs in the public mind, despite big dollars being thrown at this controversy. Until scientific bodies not funded by these corporations can assure us that GMO foods do not pose a health risk, let’s err on the side of transparency and caution.

Labeling makes sense because it allows the public to decide if they are willing to assume the risk of genetically engineered foods. Join me in voting yes on Proposition 105. The public has a right to know where their food comes from and how it is produced.
