Durango Nursery is offering a free Botany and Chemistry of Local Edible and Medicinal Plants course from 4-5:30 p.m. on Aug. 3.
Deb Moses, local educator and botanist, will explore the properties of plants like chile peppers and the pea family. She will also focus on local, wild and edible cacti, berries, greens, nuts and more.

Durango Nature Studies is holding a “Sagebrush Saga Workshop” from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Durango Nature Center on July 30.
The activity will feature a close examination of a key plant species in the Southwest, Artemisia tridentata, or “Big Sagebrush.” Sagebrush provides habitat and food for specific animal species, has various medicinal purposes utilized by many cultures and has had other historical significance in the area.
The group will wander the center’s sagebrush habitat and see the important role this plant plays in the story of the Southwest. The event will be led by program director Andrea Owens, and is free for members. The cost for nonmembers is $10, which includes free admission to the Nature Center until it closes at 3 p.m.
