Blue Moon Hike to use Dalla trails
Durango Nature Studies will host a Blue Moon Hike from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Birket Trailhead in Dalla Mountain trail system.
The hike is free for members and $10 for nonmembers.
Participants will learn about natural history, nocturnal animals, local landforms and moon facts and legends.
This full moon is a special occurrence in which two full moons occur in a month.

Licenses to hunt turkeys are available
Colorado Parks and Wildlife has leftover limited licenses and over-the-counter turkey licenses.
Licenses will be available in person and by phone. Sales will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Online sales will begin at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.

In addition to a current and valid photo ID, proof of residency and Social Security number, anyone buying a license must have a hunter education card, unless the hunter was born before Jan. 1, 1949.
Thousands of over-the-counter-with-cap licenses for bear also remain available. Interested license buyers should refer to the 2015 Big Game Brochure for season participation requirement.

Archery workshop open to beginners
An archery workshop for beginners will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday at the amphitheater at Navajo State Park.
Instructors will be on hand to train participants, who must be at least 8 years old. Participants will learn the basics of archery safety, how to load arrows and how to shoot. Participants should bring a hat and water.

Mancos State Park offers programs
Mancos State Park features entertainment and environmental education events every weekend through the summer.
“Island Night” will be held Saturday. Participants will hear ukulele music by “Ranger Rick” and Kathy Ryan. The first 20 people will be honored with leis.
These activities also will take place:
Bird walks will be held at 5:30 p.m. Fridays. Participants should bring binoculars and meet at the Vista Trailhead behind the entrance gate.
A “Trivia Bowl” and an “Instant Melodrama” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Fridays in the amphitheater.
Butterfly catching and identification will take place at 1 p.m. Saturdays. Butterfly nets will be provided. Participants should meet at the Quarry Trailhead.
“Wild Games” will take place at 4 p.m. Saturdays. Children can learn about wildlife and wildlife habitats. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should meet at the amphitheater.
Nature walks will be held at 10 a.m. Sundays.

Bike and farm tour to take place Aug. 22
The ninth annual Tour de Farms Durango Bike and Farm Tour will be held Aug. 22.
The long ride will meet at 7:45 a.m. and the short ride will meet at 8 a.m. Both rides will meet on the front lawn of the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave.
This year’s event has two routes to choose from: a leisurely six-mile in-town tour and a 25-mile route up the Animas Valley north of Durango.
The tours will feature presentations from farmers and garden directors, offer ways people can support the local food system and provide inspiration for starting a garden.
The tours will culminate at Ska Brewing Co. with a lunch made by Zia Taqueria and beverages from Ska.
All riders must be registered. Participants should bring a bike, rain jacket, helmet and water. First aid and support cyclists will be on hand.
Registration is $20. Space is limited and advance reservation is required.
