Ignacio girls soccer ends with a flurry

Tori Archuleta and Tristan Boone helped send the Ignacio High School girls soccer seniors off with some fireworks.

Both scored to help the Bobcats double their season total for goals in a 5-2 loss at Telluride on Friday.

Archuleta corralled a corner kick in front of the net.

“It took one bounce, and she finished it,” IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said.

Boone beat the Miners down the field after IHS (0-12, 0-9 Class 2A Region 4) quickly took a indirect free kick with Telluride (3-6-3, 3-6-1 Region 4) napping.

Bobcats’ keeper Kristean Velasquez-Baker finished out her season-ending hot sreak with 27 saves.

“She’s been amazing the last few games,” Cosio said.

The loss ends Ignacio’s season, but the Bobcats are in good shape for next year.

They only lose two seniors, though Velasquez-Baker is one of them.

“We talked about playing for the seniors and building for next year,” Cosio said. “I think they did a good job answering the call.”
