Amanda Witcher receiving her American FFA Degree in Louisville, Kentucky.

Amanda Witcher, a 2014 graduate of Ignacio High School, was honored at the National Future Farmers of America Convention in November in Louisville, Kentucky.

Witcher received the American FFA Degree. The degree is awarded to only the most active members of FFA.

To be eligible for their American Degree, FFA members have to earn and invest $7,5000 in an agricultural enterprise. They also must complete 50 hours of community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement.

Witcher was one of 3,765 FFA members to receive an American Degree this year. FFA has almost 580,000 members in the U.S. and its territories.

Witcher currently is attending Southwest Colorado Community College and working part-time.

She said she wore her FFA uniform for the last time at the convention of Kentucky and that FFA has given her the opportunities of a lifetime.

Witcher has been an oustanding leader in Ignacio FFA, and local chapter members were proud to see her receive her award in Louisville, said Ignacio FFA Advisor Brandon Hatter.
