‘Labor-law violation’ exceptionally petty

We are writing to express our support for Alison Dance and the Cyprus Cafe and to further explain the child-labor law violation reported by the Department of Labor.

The final audit found that our daughter and one other young woman worked 20 minutes past 7 p.m. one night during the Memorial Day weekend in 2012. Evidently, they were not allowed to work past 7 p.m. until June 1. Alison was not aware of this part of the law. This one and only instance was the entire child-labor violation. It seems exceptionally petty that such a minor infraction is labeled a “child labor-law violation.”

Alison has been an incredibly supportive employer and has provided a very positive experience for our daughter as she begins her working career. We look forward to supporting Alison and the Cyprus Cafe in the future and encourage you to do the same.
