Last Colorado recall petition against a Democrat also ends in failure

DENVER (AP) – The last citizen attempt to seek a recall of a Colorado Democratic state official this year has failed.

The Denver Post reported Friday that organizers seeking a recall election against Senate President Leroy Garcia of Pueblo handed in less than 1% of voter signatures required to force a vote.

Colorado Republican Party chair U.S. Rep. Ken Buck had encouraged party activists chagrined by Democrats’ election victories in 2018 to seek recalls.

Arguments for the recall petitions included Democrats’ regulation of oil and gas production and their passage of a “red flag” gun law.

Garcia voted against the gun law.

Petition campaigns against Gov. Jared Polis, Sens. Pete Lee and Brittany Pettersen and Rep. Tom Sullivan failed previously.
