The U.S. COVID-19 mortality rate is lower than most of the major European countries. Japan is doing a great job of controlling the virus, but neither the U.S. nor Europe could tolerate the restrictions used by Japan.

I hate to see the U.S. demeaned, as we are the best country in the world.

As for European countries having pity on us, that is unlikely. The European countries basically dislike us and perhaps envy us, and they would not pity us.
