Phoenix Recycling announces projects

Phoenix Recycling will participate in these community projects:

Fort Lewis College Environmental Center will screen the “Embrace the Earth” film April 14. The event will be hosted by the FLC Environmental Center and Phoenix Recycling.The Nature’s Oasis cloth bag give-away will take place from April 22-29. The event will be presented by Nature’s Oasis and Phoenix Recycling.First National Bank’s Shred Day will take place April 22. The event will be hosted by First National Bank of Durango and Phoenix Recycling.Mulch Madness will take place May 7. Quilters learn about simplicity’s benefits

The La Plata Quilters Guild will meet April 14 at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.

Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the program will start at 6 p.m.

Members Pat Akers and Beth Emrich will reprise last year’s visit as Lucy and Ethel, and they present a program, “KISS: Keep It Super Simple” with hints on how to choose a pattern to make charity quilts.

Guild members make and donate quilts to Gold Star Mothers, Hospice of Mercy and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque. Quilts are also sold to support Project Linus.

STARLAB set to visit Bayfield library Monday

The STARLAB, an inflatable portable planetarium, will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield.

This free interstellar experience is open to all ages and abilities.

Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

County commissioners hit road for Ignacio visit

The La Plata County commissioners will begin this year’s series of “On the Road” meetings in Ignacio, and they invite the public to join them in a conversation about issues of interest or concern regarding La Plata County and their neighborhoods.

The first community meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., Ignacio.

Home builders to hear about labor issues

The Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado will host Kevin Minne, nationally acclaimed speaker, at 5:30 p.m. April 14 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

This workshop will cover how to sell labor to the workforce, how to tap into workers’ loyalties and how to inspire innovative problem-solving and cost-saving solutions. The cost is $35 for members, $40 for nonmembers. The cost will cover heavy hors d’oeuvres and the keynote speaker.

Rotary Club to hear about home solar

The Durango Daybreak Rotary Club will host a program by Laurie Dixon of 4-CORE at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

The program will highlight 4-CORE’s work with solar installations for low-income households.

The public is invited to attend and hear about the availability of solar energy for economically disadvantaged families.
