Medicine Horse Center seeking volunteers

Medicine Horse Center is looking for volunteers to attend its volunteer training from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at its Mancos center, 40700 Road J, Mancos.

People are needed to volunteer during the day and during the week. Volunteers should be physically capable of leading or side-walking next to horses during lessons. Volunteers are needed in both Mancos and Durango.

Fox Fire Farms Winery to host annual event

Fox Fire Farms Winery, 5513 County Road 321, Ignacio, will host its annual “Taste of Spring” event from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The event will feature baby farm animals, live music, local artisans, tours of a historic one-room schoolhouse, food and wines. Admission is free.

Parade of Homes to host amateur contest

The 2014 Durango Parade of Homes, Sept. 26-28, will feature an amateur gardeners’ container garden contest, judged by local industry professionals.

The entry will be featured at one of the Parade Homes sites, with gardening prizes going to the top three entries.

Start cultivating an entry now, as this is a September event, and materials will be limited so late in the season. Entries are limited. For more information, call 382-0082.

Adult day care to host charity golf tournament

Adult Day Care at “Our Place” will host the second annual Charity Golf Tournament on May 18 at Hillcrest Golf Club.

The event will be sponsored in part by First National Bank of Durango and Mercury.

The event will feature dinner and prizes. Individual golfers or teams of four will be accepted.

Rotary Club of Durango to meet Tuesday

The Rotary Club of Durango will host Bob Griffith, former vice president/general manager of radio stations in Los Angeles, at its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Griffith has more than 31 years of broadcast experience and will present “Evolution and Concerns of American Media and News.” Visitors are welcome.
