Living Wage Coalition to host a potluck

Thrive! Living Wage Coalition and Food Not Bombs will hold a Pre-Labor Day Potluck Picnic from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at Santa Rita Park near the playground area.

This free, family-friendly event will honor and celebrate workers, their families and a living wage. The event will feature games, live music and the opportunity for workers to tell their stories about the importance of being paid a living wage. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share, a chair and lawn games.

Take techno tips from The Computer Tutor

The Pine River Library will offer “Technology 102,” the second part of an introductory technology class at 3 p.m. Sept. 2 at the library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

This section of the class will allow students to explore current technology, providing tips on email, the Internet, eCommerce, digital photos and safe computing. Participants do not have to attend the first part of this series. The class will be taught by Jon Cordalis, The Computer Tutor. There is a $10 charge for the class, due at registration. Space is limited.

Learn plant-grafting from a master

Native Roots Garden Center, 26266 U.S. Highway 160, will host a grafting class taught by Jeff Wagner at noon Saturday.

Participants will learn the art of plant-grafting from a master; Wagner has many years of experience in horticulture and fruit production. Reservations are required.

Hear about backyard chickens at grange

The Florida Grange will host a free workshop about raising backyard chickens from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 29 at the grange hall, 656 Colorado Highway 172.

This is the second installment of the grange’s raising chickens series and will focus on feeding, watering, housing, roosts and predators.
