Imagining the West series continues

Center of Southwest Studies continues its 2015 summer lecture series, “Imagining the West,” with longtime Fort Lewis College music faculty (retired) Linda Mack Berven’s talk, “Music about the West: Broadway Musicals, Popular Culture and the Concert Hall,” at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the center’s Lyceum Room, No. 120.

Berven earned her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois. She currently serves as artistic director and conductor of the Durango Choral Society and the Durango Women’s Choir. She is a conductor, pianist and harpsichordist, and she made her Carnegie Hall conducting debut in 2010.

Berven’s arching theme strives to look at the West through the many lenses of art, music, film and cultural changes over the course of time.

All summer lectures are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on specific Wednesdays and are free to the public.
