Women to learn healing techniques

Keneen Hope McNiven will host a free introductory meet and greet for the upcoming women’s-only workshop: “Five effective healing techniques for reducing back pain, managing stress, enhancing energy and improving sleep” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Inhabit, 1970 East Third Ave.

Participants will learn healing techniques that have helped women solve health challenges, saving both time and money. Techniques will include gentle therapeutic yoga, posture work, breathing techniques, meditation, mindful movement, inquiry and journaling.

FLC group climbing peaks for awareness

A group of Fort Lewis College students and alumni will climb every 14,000-foot peak in Colorado to raise awareness of mental-health issues.

The team created the Climb Out of the Darkness expedition and is inviting the public to join them for a number of their ascents, including Mount Princeton on Tuesday, Handies Peak on July 7 and Pikes Peak on Aug. 7.

Durango announces holiday schedule

The city of Durango’s holiday schedule for Friday and Saturday is:

All city administrative offices will be closed Friday.

The Durango Community Recreation Center will be open normal hours Friday and run holiday hours, 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday. Chapman Hill will be closed Saturday. The Mason Center will be closed on Friday and Saturday.

The Durango Public Library and all branches will be closed Friday and Saturday.

All commercial and residential trash/recycle routes will run as scheduled. The recycle center will be closed Friday and Saturday.

Durango Transit will run limited service Friday, with two citywide buses from 7 a.m. to 7:45 p.m., with service to Mercy Regional Medical Center, and no evening bus services. Trolleys will run a normal schedule from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. One opportunity bus will run.

Transit will run a normal Saturday schedule on Saturday. Transit also will run two shuttles between north City Market and the transit center starting at 5 p.m. The shuttles will stand by during the fireworks. Resuming afterward, the service will end around 10:30 p.m.

Saturday is a free day on Durango Transit, sponsored by Durango Business Improvement District.

All parking downtown is free Friday and the weekend.

National forest offices to be closed Friday

San Juan National Forest offices in Bayfield, Dolores, Durango and Pagosa Springs will be closed Friday, in observance of July 4.

Offices will resume operations at 8 a.m. July 6. The public is reminded that possessing or discharging fireworks of any kind on federal lands is prohibited.

DHS Class of 1995 to host reunion

Durango High School Class of 1995 will host its 20-year reunion on July 24 and 25.

A tour of DHS will take place at 3 p.m. July 24, followed by drinks and appetizers at 4 p.m. at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave. A class barbecue will take place July 25. People should call, text or email for the location and time.

Pancake breakfast to be held Saturday

The All-American Gourmet Pancake Breakfast will take place from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Rotary Park behind the VFW building on Main Avenue and 15th Street.

The breakfast will be sponsored by the Durango Rotary Club, and money raised will support the scholarships and other local community Rotary projects.

There will be whipped cream, maple syrup, fruit toppings for the pancakes and scrambled eggs, green chili, smoked ham, orange juice, milk, tea and coffee.

Adult tickets are $10, children 5 to 12 are $5 and children younger than 5 are free.
