Thanksgiving dinner to be served Nov. 26

The 29th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

Volunteers are needed for set-up, cooking, decorating, serving, delivering meals, providing rides and clean-up. People interested in donating a pie for the dinner may drop it off at the fairgrounds on the morning of Nov. 26. There is no charge for the dinner, but donations are appreciated.

People who are unable to attend but would like to support the dinner can mail donations to Durango Shared Ecumenical Ministries, 909 Spruce Drive, Durango, CO 81301.

To request a meal delivery, a ride to the dinner or to volunteer, call 259-4061.

Volunteers sought for boards, commissions

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking La Plata County residents who wish to serve on one of the following county boards and commissions: Board of Adjustment; Board of Appeals; Community Corrections Board; Citizens Review Panel for Child Welfare Grievances; Durango Hills Road Improvement District Advisory Committee; Durango-La Plata County Airport Commission; Extension Advisory Committee; Fire Code Board of Appeals (check website for specific openings); Historic Preservation Review Commission; Ignacio, Allison, Oxford Cemetery District Committee; Ignacio Community Library District Board; Lake Durango Water Authority (LDWA retail customer); Living with Wildlife Advisory Board; Lodging Tax Panel; Long Term Finance Committee; Pine River Public Library District Board; Planning Commission; Southwest Region 9 Workforce Board; and Undesirable Plant & Rodent Advisory Commission.

Youth Expo will offer options for teens

The city of Durango’s Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission will offer the fifth annual Youth Expo from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

The expo is an all-in-one forum that allows teenagers to learn about the local options for high school, activities, clubs, volunteer opportunities, jobs, internships and resources available to local teens.

Parkinson’s support group to meet

The Parkinson’s Disease Education and Support Group meets the third Thursday of every month.

The next meeting will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive. The guest speaker will be Chris Furer, CMT.

Crow’s Closet to host fashion show

Crow’s Closet, Durango’s new mountain casual apparel store on Main Avenue, will host its first Fall Fashion Show at 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at 750 Main Ave.

The event will showcase Crow’s Closet’s new apparel lines and outfits for men and women from brands such as Aventura Clothing, ibex, Ecoths and more. Crow’s Closet also has paired with the Durango Arts Center to showcase local artists’ work, which will premiere at the event. The Fall Fashion Show also will showcase a sampling of technical apparel from Backcountry Experience.
