TARA to host plant sale, yard sales

The TARA (Tiffany, Allison, Rosa, and Arboles) Treasure Trail and Plant Sale and Exchange will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will include community yard sales selling miscellaneous items, tools, household goods and more. About 15 people will be participating. Signs and balloons will be posted from Tiffany to Arboles. Maps will be available at all stops, the Piedra Peak General Store and the TARA Community Center, 333 Milton Lane in Arboles.

Horse-barrel race to take place Saturday

Southwest Barrel Racers Association will host a barrel race Saturday at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds, 200 Colorado Highway 151 in Ignacio.

The event will feature prizes and jackpot money. The 4D Jackpot Open has a $40 entry fee. The 4D Youth and Seniors has a $30 entry fee. The timed runs will start at 10:30 a.m. The open race will start at 12:30 p.m. with the 2D Pole Bending Jackpot to follow.

Living Wage Coalition to host discussion

Thrive! Living Wage Coalition invites people to a free dinner and discussion at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The coalition is working to ensure that everyone in La Plata County has the opportunity to earn a living wage. The group is interested in hearing people’s stories and getting input. Child care will be provided.

Parks, wildlife seeking paid intern

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking a paid intern for a summer part-time position to help with outdoor education and volunteer programs in Durango.

Applicants must be 18-24 years old and should have a background in biology or natural resources, and a strong desire to work with the public. Work will be two or three days a week, including Saturdays, at the Durango fish hatchery wildlife museum. Some work also will be done at state parks in Southwest Colorado. The application deadline is Monday.

Road work in Skyridge, Hillcrest neighborhoods

The city of Durango is working with Four Corners Materials to reconstruct a number of streets in the Skyridge and Hillcrest neighborhoods, continuing through June 13.

Residents in these neighborhoods should expect parking restrictions and traffic delays during the day. All parking restrictions will be posted a minimum of 24 hours in advance. The streets to be reconstructed are:

Jenkins Ranch Road between Goeglein Gulch Road and Ophir Drive.

Coalbank Drive.

Hillcrest Drive to the end of the pavement.

Jenkins Drive.
