Commissioners seek volunteers for boards

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners continues to accept applications from La Plata County residents who wish to serve on one of these county boards and commissions: Board of Adjustment; Board of Appeals; Community Corrections Board; Citizens Review Panel for Child Welfare Grievances; Durango Hills Road Improvement District Advisory Committee; Durango Public Library Board; Extension Advisory Committee; Fire Code Adoption & Revision Committee; Fire Code Board of Appeals – General Industry; Fire Protection Engineer & Industrial Safety Professional; Ignacio Community Library District Board; Lake Durango Water Authority; Living with Wildlife Advisory Board; Lodging Tax Panel; Long Term Finance Committee; Pine River Cemetery District Committee; Southwest Region 9 Workforce Board; and Undesirable Plant & Rodent Advisory Committee.

U.S. 550 connection to U.S. 160 discussed

The Colorado Department of Transportation will host a public open house to provide information about the U.S. Highway 550 south connection to U.S. Highway 160 in Durango from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

At the open house, the public can view details of the refinement to the U.S. 550 at U.S. 160 Preferred Alternative, as well as other alternatives that were developed by an independent team over the past year.

Light maintenance to be performed

City of Durango crews will perform street-light maintenance on the west side of Florida Road, from North College Drive to the Riverview Roundabout at 9 a.m. Monday.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane for the duration. As crews move south from North College Drive, traffic control and the lane closure will relocate as street lights are completed. Traffic delays should be expected, and travelers are encouraged to use an alternate route.

Prostate cancer group to meet

The Man to Man Prostate Cancer Support Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Garden Level meeting rooms at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Dr. David Sisul, new urologist at Mercy Regional Medical Center, will address the group. He earned his degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of California San Diego. With Mercy having a Da Vinci Robotic Surgical device, Sisul will review prostate surgery, advantages and disadvantages of open and robotic procedures. The public is welcome.

Rotary Club of Durango to meet

Amy Haggart, director of DEVO Junior Mountain Bike Team, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Established in 2006, Durango Devo is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to develop people, in a traditional team setting, into life-long cyclists. The Durango Junior Development Mountain Bike Team is a program for ages 2 to 25 that is split into nine teams. All programs are led by a Devo-trained and first-aid certified head coach with the help of assistant coaches. Visitors are welcome.

Free basket weaving class available

Turtle Lake Refuge will sponsor a free basket weaving class to support the success of Organic Parks in Durango at 1 p.m. Monday at the Organic Iris/Riverfront Park located behind Natural Grocers.

DUI enforcement to be increased

The Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies across the state will have heightened DUI enforcement through Monday as part of CDOT’s ongoing The Heat Is On campaign.
