Remembrance gatherings to be held

Hospice of Mercy will host the annual “Tree of Lights: A Gathering of Remembrance” events at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce and at noon Dec. 4 in the Chapel at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

The Tree of Lights service invites the community to come together during the holiday season to remember loved ones who have died. Names of loved ones will be read at the services, along with a lighting of candles and musical reflection.

Event to benefit WolfWood Refuge

Four Leaves Winery in Durango will sponsor “Noel Night for the Wolves” from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at 528 Main Ave.

The event will feature the release of GypsyFire’s CD “Wolf Song.” The original folk tunes were inspired by the wolves from WolfWood Refuge in Ignacio. All proceeds from the CD are donated to the refuge.

Four Leaves Winery will offer several selections of its wines with custom labels highlighting the wolves that live at WolfWood. A donation from each bottle sold with these labels is given to the refuge. WolfWood’s 2015 calendar and stuffed toys also will be for sale.

Grammar discussion to take place

Local author Melissa Stacy will present “So You Think You Can Grammar?” from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 9 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The presentation will feature grammar talk, including moody verbs, gendered words, mondegreens, useless prepositions and other tricky word questions.

Durango announces holiday schedule

All city of Durango administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The following is the schedule for other city programs:

City administrative offices will be closed. This includes offices at City Hall, River City Hall, Durango Transit Center, Durango Community Recreation Center, and Greenmount Cemetery.

Durango Community Recreation Center and Chapman Hill will be closed Thursday, but both will be open regular hours on Friday. The Mason Center will be closed Monday through Nov. 30; there will be no classes during this time.

Durango Public Library will be closed Thursday and Friday but open on Saturday. All library branches will be closed the week of Nov. 24 in conjunction with the Durango School District 9-R break.

Durango Transit will not run on Thursday. On Friday, two citywide buses (Route 6) will run from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be no service to Mercy Regional Medical Center or evening bus. The trolley will run normal hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. One Opportunity Bus will operate. The transit parking window will be closed Thursday and Friday.

There will be no trash or recycling service on Thursday. Thursday’s residential trash, commercial trash, and recycling will be picked up on Friday. The Recycle Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, with public drop off reopening on Saturday.

There will be free downtown parking Thursday through Nov. 30.
