Iron Horse Chef semifinal to be held

Growing Partners of Southwest Colorado will present the semifinal competition of the 7th annual Iron Horse Chef from 9 to 11:30 a.m. July 19 at the Durango Farmers Market, located in the parking lot of First National Bank of Durango on 8th Street between Camino del Rio and Main Avenue.

The chefs will have an hour and a half to shop and prepare dishes all at the Durango Farmers Market, The finale, on Aug. 2, will pit the semifinal winner against the defending champion from 2013, chef Sean Clark from El Moro Spirits and Tavern.

Fiesta Days to host rodeo and more

Durango Fiesta Days will host a free day of western activities July 22 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

An opening performance by Encore will take place at 9:15 a.m. followed by the rodeo from 10 to 11 a.m. A petting zoo, tractor talk, hay rides and hot dog lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Snow Top Exceptional Rodeo will take place at 11 a.m.

This is a rodeo for children and adults with special needs. Contestants for the Snow Top need a release form. Contestants will be treated to lunch sponsored by Domino’s.

Mancos library to host anniversary celebration

Mancos Friends of the Library will host a Fifth Anniversary Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24 at the Mancos Public Library, 211 West First St. in Mancos.

This free celebration will include the 2014 Mancos Days Book Sale, piano music by Lee Bartley, reading by John Wright from La Grulla, storytelling by John Pfeiffer from Fantastical Treasure Tales of the Colorado Rockies and a cake and ice cream social.

Printmaking to be discussed in Mancos

Printmaking with Artist Bryan Kyle will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mancos Public Library, 211 West First St. in Mancos.

This is a free event. All ages are welcome. Participants will learn about the artistic process of printmaking and discover simple “kitchen table” techniques for this type of art. An exhibit of Kyle’s works is currently displayed on the library Art Wall.

High Noon Rotary Club to meet Thursday

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The cost for lunch is $15. Sheena Carswell will speak on “Diabetes in America, an ‘epidemic.’”
