DHS Class of 1974 to host reunion

Durango High School Class of 1974 will host its reunion on Friday and Saturday.

The meet-and-greet will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Derailed Pour House, 725 Main Ave. The get-together luncheon will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at The Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, 1150 Main Ave. After the lunch, the class will go to the Old High School building for a group photo from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The registration fee of $35 will be collected at the door or depending on venue, people may have to order off the menu.

Concert to benefit local cancer patient

Friends of Cheryl Birchard are organizing a benefit concert to help pay for cancer treatment expenses at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mark’s Church, 910 East Third Ave.

The concert will feature Cheryl and Tim Birchard, Dances of Universal Peace, Gemma Kavanagh, the Vivace Mandolin Ensemble, Rochelle Mann, Linda Mack Berven and C. Scott Hagler.

Landscaping to begin at U.S. 550/160

The city of Durango announces the initiation of the landscape installation in the newly constructed medians and along either side of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Continuous Flow Intersection at the intersection of U.S. Highway 550 and U.S. Highway 160 West.

Animas Valley Construction has been hired to install an irrigation system and landscaping. Landscaping will include tree plantings on both the east and west sides of the intersection, tree plantings in the U.S. Highway 550 median north of Seventh Street, tree and shrub plantings in the art-piece island at the U.S. 550/160 West intersection and tree and shrub plantings in the median between the west-bound turn lane and Highway 550.

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 8 and is planned to be completed by the end of September. The project will require intermittent lane closures on U.S. Highway 550, as construction within the islands and medians is taking place.

CDOT to roadside mow west, east of Bayfield

The Colorado Department of Transportation will conduct roadside mowing from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday on U.S. Highway 160 from Mile Post 91 to 121 – west and east of Bayfield.

Motorists can expect some traffic slowing and minimal delays.

High Noon Rotary club to meet Thursday

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Caminio del Rio.

Sophie Hickcox, an exchange student who has returned from France, will report on her trip.
