Horse Rescue to hold Sunday fundraiser

Spring Creek Horse Rescue will host a fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Red Snapper, 144 East Ninth Street.

The event is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated.

Drop-in tennis returns to high school courts

Drop-in tennis has resumed at the high school tennis courts.

They play Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. All ages, genders and levels of play are welcome.

Beekeepers to hold full-day seminar

The Four Corners Beekeeper’s Association will host a daylong seminar featuring Liz Huxter of Kettle Valley Queens, British Columbia, Canada, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lyceum at Fort Lewis College.

Huxter is a researcher, queen rearer and technical adviser to the Colorado Queen Rearing Initiative.

In the morning, she’ll teach over-wintering success, nuc preparatio, and over-wintering nucs. After lunch, she’ll teach sustainable queen rearing, judging queen genetics, drone management, and more. The public is welcome. The cost is $30.

Purgatory holds final Locals Benefit Day

Purgatory’s final Locals Benefit Day of the season will take place Sunday.

Part of its annual community outreach program, Purgatory hosts four Locals Days each season with a portion of lift ticket sales benefitting local non-profit organizations. This season’s beneficiaries are the Be F.R.A.N.K. Foundation, Heart Safe La Plata, La Plata Family Centers Coalition and Trails 2000.

Discounted lift tickets are available Sunday with a coupon for $45 adults (18-64); $32 teens (ages 13-17) and seniors (65-79); and $25 kids (6-12 years) and super seniors 80+; kids 5 and younger are free.

A Locals Day coupon must be presented on a smartphone or in paper form at the ticket window to receive the discount. Coupons are available on Purgatory’s website.

Locals Day ticket purchasers can save 25 percent at the Bear’s Den licensed child care center on Sunday with a Locals Day Lift Ticket. Reservations are required. To register, call 385-2144.

In addition to offering discounted lift tickets, Purgatory will host Demo Days in partnership with Never Summer, Fischer Skis and seven local shops: Pine Needle Mountaineering, Backcountry Experience, Boarding Haus, Cliffside Ski & Sport, 2nd Avenue Sports, Ski Barn and Expert Edge.

For $10, guests will get unlimited demos of the latest equipment for the day. All proceeds will go directly to the four nonprofit partners.

Drivers Safety Course to be offered Thursday

AARP Drivers Safety Course will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

Registration is at 8:15 a.m.
