Westendorff to meet with public in Bayfield

La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westendorff will hold office hours for the general public to meet with her from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Pine River Library Conference Room, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield.

Westendorff will meet with Bayfield-area residents to learn about their interests and concerns.

Landscape work set at CFI intersection

The Colorado Department of Transportation in partnership with the city of Durango will do maintenance and landscape work at the CFI intersection today through Friday.

The left lane in both the northbound and southbound directions will be closed while crews are working.

Work will be done from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic conflicts. Work on the north median will conclude by 10 p.m. The work will consist of removing material from the raised medians, installing weed barrier and washed rock.

Slow down for deer crossing highways

The La Plata County Living With Wildlife Advisory Board reminds drivers to slow down and watch for deer currently migrating across area highways, especially during dawn and dusk hours.

The migration period is usually the first two weeks of May, but drivers are cautioned to be aware of wildlife all summer.

Drop off baby hats for newborns

Durango Mad Hatters announce a new drop-off location for baby hats donated to the newborns at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Baby hats can be dropped off at STITCH at 153 East 15th St.

Tuesday Talk focuses on fire season

The Durango Chamber of Commerce Tuesday Talk will be held from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Tuesday at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.

Scott Davis from Durango Fire and Rescue will discuss “Open Burn and Wild Fire Season. Reservations are required online at www.durangobusiness.org or by calling 247-0312.

Donate items to help community shelter

Advantage Physical Therapy will sponsor an Odds and Ends Drive to collect new toiletries, non-perishable food items and new and gently used pajamas and loungewear for the Durango Community Shelter.

The drive will run through May 31. Items can be dropped off at Advantage PT, 3600 Main Ave..

Cinco de Mayo event set for library

The Pine River Library will continue its Mesa de Charla series with a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The event will include a community discussion and potluck as well as a craft for kids. All ages are welcome. Participants can bring a dish to share.

The events are a part of the “Latino Americans: 500 Years of History” grant provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

Compassionate Friends group to meet

The Compassionate Friends, a support group for parents who have a child who has died, at any age, no matter how long ago, will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.

The topic will be “seven things I have learned from the death of my child.”

The support group has no religious affiliation.
