Hammers and High Heels to be held July 13
Habitat of La Plata County will present Hammers and High Heels, to celebrate the community’s building industry, from 7 to 10 p.m. July 13 at Ska Brewing Co., 225 Girard St.
This will be an opportunity to network and socialize. The event will feature appetizers, beverages, live music with Mama D and the Drifters and a silent auction. The cost is $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Ska, ClassiqueBilt, First National Bank of Durango, Habitat ReStore in Bodo Industrial Park or at the door.

Botanical Society to offer program
The Durango Botanical Society will host “Summer in the Garden” Plein air Garden Journaling on July 13 at Durango Public Library demonstration garden, 1900 East Third Ave.
This is part of the society’s outdoor botanical illustration with Barbara Tobin Klema. No experience is necessary. This workshop is designed to instruct the novice as well as professional artists and journalists. Participants should bring a journal, sketch pads and any mediums they wish to work with. This is a highly individualized experience.
The session is $20 for members or $25 for nonmembers. People may take two sessions for $30 to $40.

Presentation on bugs to be offered July 13
The Durango Botanical Society will present “What’s bugging you?” on July 13 at Durango Public Library demonstration garden, 1900 East Third Ave.
Participants will learn the difference between good bugs and bad bugs; practices that can keep a garden healthy; what bugs like and how to identify them; and how to handle those bugs that have taken up residency in a garden. People who spend an hour in the demonstration garden weeding will be able to take home a plant.

Republican women to meet July 16
The Southwest Republican Women will meet at noon July 16 at DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
Sen. Ellen Roberts will present “A Legislative Road Trip: Where Have We Been and Where Are We Going?”
The group also will meet at noon Aug. 20 at DoubleTree Hotel, where attorney and constitutional scholar Rob Natelson with the Independence Institute will discuss “What Your Professors Never Told You About the Constitution.”
Lunch is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Everyone is welcome, but reservations are required.

‘Heart & Soil’ film to be shown
Durango Discovery Museum and Durango Community Cinema will present a free screening of “Heart & Soil” by award-winning local filmmaker Mara LeGrand on July 17 in the Powerhouse Theater or at Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by LeGrand.
“Heart & Soil” is a family documentary that shows the landscape and lives of farmers in the Southwest, and the energy of farmer’s markets and farm-to-school programs.
DHS Class of 1983 to host reunion
