Hot Rod Rally set for Saturday

The Hideaway Hot Rod Rally II Car and Bike Show will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

There will be prize giveaways and a road rally to the Hideaway Grill, 18044 County Road 501 in Bayfield, after the show. Winners will be announced and trophies awarded at the Hideaway.

Purgatory’s fungi fest adds a 6-course meal

The annual Purgatory Mushroom Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at Purgatory Resort. In addition, a new multi-course dinner is planned the night of Aug. 19.

The festival will feature guided mushroom hunts and a culinary showcase of Durango restaurants.

The Friday night dinner will be in the Durango Mountain Club, and it will feature a six-course meal with wine pairings. Each dish will be prepared with wild mushrooms gathered on the mountain by Chef Dan. Dinner is priced at $100 per person, which includes tax and gratuity. Seating is limited to 75 guests.

Local mushroom experts will take small groups to explore the forest for a variety of mushrooms on Saturday. Refreshments and transportation up the mountain are included. The guided foray is priced at $39 per person.

On Saturday afternoon, six Durango restaurants will share their favorite mushroom-inspired dishes as part of the Culinary Extravaganza. The local restaurants include Eolus, East By Southwest, Ore House, Kennebec Cafe, Mutu’s and Purgy’s. Each dish includes a wine pairing personally selected by the chef. The meal also includes live music from The Assortment and cooking demonstrations by guest chefs. This event is priced at $45 for adults and $30 for guests younger than 21.
